Srinagar: The Department of Agricultural Production and Farmer Welfare of Kashmir organized a beekeeping mapping day for the mapping of beekeeping units spread across the valley to formulate a comprehensive policy to promote beekeeping in UT of J&K. In this regard, Kashmiri Director of Agriculture Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal formed special teams of Joint Directors of Agriculture to monitor the event across the valley.
In this context, full ceremonies were held in the 10 districts during which a large number of beekeepers interacted with the officers and officials of the department. Experts urged officials in the department to motivate young people towards establishing viable beekeeping units, as the sector has good potential to generate income not only in the production of honey, but also in the production of by-products like beeswax, propolis, bee venom and royal. The beekeepers highlighted various problems faced by the beekeeping industry and suggested some measures that should be taken by the Department of Agriculture for its promotion.
The Agriculture director assured today that the department will take all possible measures to revive & promote the sector.
