LONGMONT, Colorado – “The Honey Bunchies story is really sweet, no pun intended,” says Kendra Bennett, Marketing Director of Honey Bunchies.
Honey bunchies is a handmade gourmet honey bar that is made right here in Colorado. The business started in 2010 when Kendra’s dad tried to recreate a recipe his mom made for him 35 years ago. No one had written the original recipe, so he spent three long months in the kitchen combining the ingredients until he created a delicious gourmet honey bar that he named Honey Bunchies. The name was inspired by Kendra’s mother’s nickname, which he calls “mouth honey“.

Kendra’s father spent the next few years running the Honey Bunchies business on his own. He made the bars, created the packaging, managed the books, and went around town knocking on doors to see if people would sell Honey Bunchies. As the business grew, Kendra, her mother and brother joined the team. Soon Honey Bunchies was taken over by Whole Foods and from there it spread to stores in Colorado.
“It takes three days to make a batch of bars. Everything is done by hand, although we use equipment to help us, like a cutting machine, ”says Kendra. “There’s no question, you know, that the four of us are very involved in the whole process from start to finish, so it’s a labor of love. “
