Governor launches Sidr plantation initiative

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shah Farman said on Monday that Sidr’s high potential of honey is a great blessing to this province.

The large-scale barren lands in the southern districts are very suitable for the cultivation of Sidr and for this purpose all resources would be provided to the local landowners for its production. During a visit to the Sidr (Ber) fields in Takht-e-Nusrati, Karak district, the governor planted a Sidr sapling officially inaugurating the Sidr planting initiative. He also distributed beekeeping tool kits to farmers and representatives of the Association of beekeepers.

MP Shahid Khattak, Kohat Division Commissioner Javed Iqbal Marwat, Agriculture Secretary Muhammad Israr, local farmers and beekeepers were also present on the occasion.

Speaking to locals here, the governor said the KP has enormous potential for producing Sidr honey, which is considered one of the best and most loved in the world due to its great taste and quality. quality to remain liquid even at a negative temperature.

He said that together with the joint efforts of the Agriculture and Forestry Department, we are serious about making this initiative successful as it will allow us to generate around 10 billion revenue per year.

Agriculture Ministry officials informed the governor that Karak, Kohat, Lakki Marwat and Dera Ismail Khan were capable of producing Sidr honey. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has the capacity to produce over 30,000 metric tons of standard honey and Karak has the capacity to produce 3,000 metric tons. of Sidr’s honey.

The governor was informed that $ 200 million had been approved as part of the annual development plan for the honey production initiative in the province and that an accredited honey quality analysis laboratory would also be established in the province. KP.
