Although located at the Paradise Club in The Times Square EDITION, Blondes teleported us to a new galaxy, far away for the brand’s SS22 ‘Cosmic Cabaret’ collection. As their first post-pandemic show, Philippe and David Blond brought their classic, jaw-dropping aesthetic to the closing New York Fashion Week show. In a range of hues of fiery fuchsia, captivating cerulean and heavy metal notes, the duo have also tapped into a range of supernova talents such as Paris Hilton, Lion Babe, Ariadna Gutierrez, Gigi Gorgeous, Jazzelle Zanaughtti, Leomie Anderson, The DuPont Twins, and more to honor the track and begin the new blend.
Vs Kevin ponce caught up with David backstage talking about the pieces + what it was like to be back in fashion week!
Kevin Ponce: Well first of all, how does it feel to be back at fashion week?
David Blond: Oh my God, honey, we’re so excited! I was dying to do this – originally we were just going to have a party and once we started building it it became a full scale show.
KP: We love it!
BD: We have friends like Bodine and Lion Babe who inspire us as artists, so it was a great opportunity to get a group of people together to do something special. We really wanted to do something more intimate and just invite friends and family so that we could celebrate being together, being back, and living again.
KP: Tell me about the new collection, what was the main source of inspiration for the range? It was like a fantasy of a cosmic galaxy at full blast.
BD: The main influence was just the future of fashion and the fusion of fashion and music. We have the impression that fashion is becoming its own center of entertainment and that it will be as important as big concerts or sporting events.
KP: Speaking of the future of fashion, what do you hope we will see over the years?
BD: Well I think it’s interesting to see how the whole industry is going. We work in partnership with On the spot and IMG to create and generate these experiences and their packages that will also work in the business side of our business as it brings in new customer base. They [can also] come and make an appointment where they buy something – we take care of the whole experience from start to finish.
KP: Of the entire range, which piece is your favorite?
BD: The pants that Phillipe wears, of course! *Laughs*
KP: I mean how long does it take to create a pair of pants like this?
BD: It actually takes a while: there are about 66,000 crystals! I’m not even kidding, they counted. These pants were sent to the Czech Republic and they crystallized them, they sent them back and we built it all. The idea was on the mercurial aspects of what is happening now – reflection, light and love. It’s our classic silhouette, but then you turn around and hit them with the robot!
