Research shows that a family of four will lose up to sixty socks each year, which is a lot of unwanted weird socks hidden and unworn.
Locals enthusiastically deposited their weird socks in a special collection box located in the reception area of ââHoney Lane Care Homes. And, after laundering the donations, residents made sock puppets for local children, including the Sunshine Day Nursery at Waltham Abbey.
Debbie Pinnington of Sunshine Day Nursery said: âThe kids were thrilled to receive these amazing Honey Lane sock puppets. They are so excited to be able to play with them and use them to improve their storytelling. “
Many residents were involved in the project, including Shirley Powell and Betty Leigh.
Betty said: âWhen we found out we had to make sock puppets for the kids this Christmas, I was very excited and it brought back fond memories of their childhood. It’s nice to see the kids having so much fun.
Marta Leszko, Acting Director of Honey Lane, said: âThe residents loved this project, it was a lot of fun and very creative and they loved the idea of ââcreating something unique and special for the kids in the region, during a difficult year for everyone. . “
