ORANGE COUNTY, Florida – It’s been almost a month since a fire ravaged Webb’s Honey and workers are still cleaning up what’s left of the building.
Most of the equipment and inventory was destroyed in the blaze the day before Thanksgiving, according to Autumn Webb, who helps run the business with her father, David.
The team of six workers takes care of the massive business on a day-to-day basis. Owner David Webb is trying to see what pieces of equipment he could salvage.
Autumn set up a temporary storefront to sell honey and other products that survived the fire. She also set up an online fundraiser, where community members donated over $ 8,000 to help workers get back on their feet.
She said some people even stopped to deposit checks and the money was helping payroll.
âWe’re here in the middle of nowhere, a little way out of town and stuff, but all these people coming out of us – it’s really a reminder that we’re part of a community,â Autumn said.
David isn’t sure if they’ll rebuild or move somewhere else, but he’s optimistic about what will happen.
âIf you are a beekeeper you are optimistic because otherwise you would be something else,â he said. âYou have to be optimistic to be a beekeeper. “
The state fire marshal’s office is still investigating the causes of the flames. The store had been closed before the holidays.
